On December 21st GSAC member Vanguard University stunned San Jose State with a 72 - 70 victory. Small NAIA schools love getting a shot at NCAA Division I schools (even though NCAA power rankings discourage it) and it is nice to see a GSAC member get a big win. You can read the game summary on San Jose State's site here.
The 26th Tom Byron Classic kicks off tonight. The early game starts at 5:00 (I think) and the late game starts at 7:30. Westmont plays St. Xavier in the late game. St. Xavier is a solid NAIA program that is a regular at the National Tournament. Westmont last faced them and beat them in the first round of the 1998 Nationals in Tulsa. You can read Dave Loveton's preview of tonight's match-up here at the Santa Barbara Newspress.

Young Warriors Beat Alumni 95-91
The 2001-2002 Warriors beat the alumni team last night at Murchison. It turned out to be an entertaining event. Chris Gonzales paced the alumni with 20 points while Chris Clark topped the current Warriors with 28. (Photo: Robin Eley brings up the ball against Adrian Phillips)

Congratulations to Mitch Pierce for being named GSAC Player of the Week. You can read the write up at Westmont's official site here, or at the GSAC's site here.
Tomorrow night at Murchison gym this year's squad will be taking on former Warriors. It is the first Alumni Game that Westmont has done in a while. I think it starts at 7:30. You can see the likes of John Walker, Chris Gonzales, and Corey Blick (to name a few). There's a rumor floating around that Coach Az and Coach Moore may play....

The Warrior's beat Concordia on Saturday 82 - 74. It was a refreshing victory for a team that has had many close games this season. You can read the review at the Santa Barbara Newspress here.
